Terms of Service

Last updated: October 21, 2025

Altadena Exchange (the “Service”) connects people who lost photography gear in the Altadena fires with donors who want to help. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be 18+ and able to form a contract. Create an account with accurate information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.

2. Purpose of the Service

We provide a platform for posting equipment requests, posting donation offers, and coordinating via in-app messaging. We do not buy, sell, or ship items; transfers are coordinated directly between users.

3. Verification and Moderation

Certain actions (e.g., posting offers or contacting donors) require verification. We may review submissions and, at our discretion, approve, reject, or revoke access for safety and anti-abuse.

4. User Content and Conduct

You are responsible for the content you post and for your conduct. Do not post illegal content, private data of others, or anything abusive, fraudulent, or infringing. We may remove content or limit accounts that violate these Terms or our policies.

5. No Fees; Donations and Valuations

The Service currently charges no fees. Item valuations and tax treatment are your responsibility. We do not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice.

6. Tax-Deductible Donations and Fiscal Sponsor

Tax-deductible donations, if applicable, are made under a fiscal sponsorship arrangement with Creative Visions Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Creative Visions—not Altadena Exchange—provides the tax-exempt status that may allow donors to claim deductions, subject to law. Donors should consult their tax advisor; eligibility and documentation are not guaranteed by us.

7. No Warranties; Disclaimers

The Service is provided “AS IS” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the availability, accuracy, or security of the Service, or the condition, authenticity, or delivery of any items arranged between users.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Altadena Exchange and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (currently expected to be $0).

9. Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services (e.g., Supabase for authentication, database, and storage) to operate the Service. Their terms and privacy practices govern their services.

10. Changes and Availability

We may modify the Service, suspend features, or discontinue the Service at any time. We may update these Terms at any time. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice (e.g., in-app notice or email, where available). Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for any reason, including violations, suspected abuse, or legal risk.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflicts of laws principles. Venue lies in the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.

13. Contact

Questions about these Terms: legal@altadena.exchange (or use the in-app contact form).
